The main difference between tiles and ceramics

Tiles are items that are only for work on the wall and can not be used for the floor in any way because they do not have the necessary strength for the floor. The resistance of tiles to pressure, cold and heat is very low, so they should only be used for closed environments and walls that do not have moisture from behind (so-called no salt). The use of tiles in the cases mentioned causes damage to the tiles.

However, the tiles have very beautiful designs and a very high variety compared to ceramics. The best environments for using tiles are the walls of bathrooms, bathrooms, kitchens, rooms, parking lots and corridors.Due to its high water absorption percentage compared to ceramics, tile is much more suitable and convenient for working on walls and heights.Ceramics are kinds of materials that can be used for both walls and floors, but because of their strength, they are mostly used for floors.Ceramics are more resistant to pressure, cold, extreme heat, and humidity than tiles, but only certain types of ceramics, called porcelain, can be used outdoors.Porcelain is completely resistant to pressure, cold, heat and moisture. For this reason, it is used in open and pressurized environments, cold, heat, and humidity, such as the facades of buildings, the floor of the yard, the floor of the parking lot, and the walls that have salt.

Ceramics are more resistant to pressure, cold and extreme heat and humidity than tiles and are therefore used for floors. But a special type of ceramic called porcelain can also be used outdoors. The absorption of ceramic water is very low and porcelain is about zero. That is why it is very difficult to use them on the wall and work height.

One of the most important reasons for using tiles in the architecture of a building is that it is hygienic compared to stone, cement and other materials, and the other is that ceramic tiles also insulate against moisture.A good tile should be such that it can withstand sudden changes in temperature between 20 and 100 degrees well and does not have cracks in the body or glaze, otherwise this tile is not of good quality. About the tile size, if used for floors and walls, it should be produced in dimensions less than 20 × 20 or 10 × 20 to 50 by 50 cm.One of the visual attractions of ceramic tiles is the unparalleled variety of designs and colors that you may even be confused in this regard.

The walls are used to maintain greater hygiene and to protect against moisture in the kitchen, bathroom, bathroom and toilet, because they are much easier to clean than other wall coverings and reduce maintenance costs. The floor is also used in kitchens and bathrooms due to its anti-wear, high thermal and electrical resistance.

Glazed tile is one of the oldest types of tiles that is mostly used for decorative purposes. In Iran, craftsmen used oxides of metals such as tin, copper, cobalt, magnesium and antimony to glaze the tile. This kind of tile is also produced and used throughout South Asia, North Africa, Spain and other parts of Europe and China. Italy is also one of the pioneers of this industry.Italy is also one of the pioneers of this industry. Basically, the reason for glazing tiles is that it has a shiny, smooth, beautiful, waterproof and chemical surface. There is a kind of ceramic called miniature that is made in the sizes of 2.5 by 2.5 cm. They have various colors and they are very easy to install and can be used in any place, but their most important use is in swimming pools, saunas and sanitary environments. Today, most ceramic tile companies use soil pressing methods to press a mixture of tile materials and then glaze it and bake it in a kiln. This is a modern method of making ceramic tiles.

Recently, researchers have succeeded in using silver nanoparticles to produce a type of antibacterial ceramic tile that is very suitable for use in building sanitary facilities And prevents the growth of bacteria and fungi.

These nanoparticles are combined in ceramic tile glaze and give antibacterial coating to ceramic tiles and their use in wet places significantly reduces the growth of bacteria and germs. The water absorption of ceramics is very low and porcelain is about zero. For this reason, it is very difficult to use them on the wall and work height, and scooping is used to solve this problem.
