Gas cylinders are generally divided into two general categories.
1- Seamless cylinders
2- Welding cylinders
Seamless cylinders are commonly used to store products that are in the gas phase and have a high pressure (there are always exceptions) such as oxygen, nitrogen, hydrogen, helium and… These cylinders are produced under the ISO 9809-1 standard. In order to increase the level of safety of the cylinders used in this union, the European Union has required all international manufacturers that in order to export to this union, in addition to the ISO 9809-1 standard, the products must comply with the TPED (π).This is the Transportable Pressure Equipment Directive (TPED). These cylinders are available in various sizes and dimensions from 1 liter to about 180 liters.
Welding cylinders are cylinders used to maintain products that are in the liquid phase and have a low vapor pressure; Like acetylene, propane, ethylene, etc., these cylinders are manufactured and supplied under the ISO 3807: 2013 standard. These cylinders are made in various sizes from 1.5 liters to 107 liters.
These cylinders are produced with 4 different materials (steel), aluminum, stainless steel and composite in each group and depending on the gas used with different alloys. Steel cylinders are used for corrosion-free gases. The use of aluminum cylinders is generally for gas mixtures that have a corrosive element or elements in a very low volume (ppm).Stainless steel cylinders are used for very special purposes such as ethylene oxide gas or sampling cylinders.
Another type of steel and aluminum cylinders are disposable cylinders. These cylinders are commonly used for gas mixtures.
The main feature of these cylinders is their small size and portability. These cylinders are designed for single charge only, hence they are called disposable cylinders. Do not recharge these cylinders separately.
Liquefied petroleum gas, or liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), is a hydrocarbon gas butane and propane, or a combination thereof, that are held in a liquid state. Usually small amounts of compounds such as propylene and butylene are also present in liquefied petroleum gas.
LPG is mostly used for heating applications and as a fuel for vehicles. It is also used in the manufacture of sprays and as a cooling gas in refrigeration appliances such as refrigerators and freezers.
LPG in the refinery is a by-product of natural gas refining and crude oil refining. The calorific value of liquefied petroleum gas is 46.1 megajoules / kg, which is higher than gasoline and fuel oil and produces higher energy in equal weight, but its calorific value is less in equal volume because it is a gas and has a lower density. Each liter of liquefied petroleum gas weighs 500 to 580 grams and each liter of gasoline weighs 710 to 770 grams. This gas turns into a liquid at a temperature of 21 degrees Celsius under a maximum pressure of 8 kg per square centimeter; And at the time of production, it has no color, smell or even taste, for added safety, sulfur compounds called mercaptan (which includes ethyl mercaptan and methyl mercaptan) are added.
LPG should not be confused with LNG (liquefied natural gas). Aluminum is actually natural gas (mainly methane and ethane) that liquefies for easier and more economical transportation. Cyanide is also a natural gas that is compressed to take up less space.
