A simple hand-woven kilim is made of (cotton or wool) and weft (bash), which is usually made of pet wool. Glim carpet is one of the lightest types of carpet that is usually woven in Turkmen, Turkish and Caucasian regions. This type of carpet is woven from animal wool and hair, and natural plants are used to dye its threads. Glim carpets available in the market are usually woven in standard sizes of 100 by 70 cm, 150 by 100 cm (half an inch), 2 by 3 meters and 3 by 4 meters. But they can also be found in side dimensions to widen hallways or stairwells or fill in the gaps in a home. Maybe a kilim is a simple type of rug. On this principle, it can be accepted that the weaving of kilims was common before the invention of carpets. Relics found in the tomb of Egyptian pharaohs 2500 BC indicate the existence of kilims at that time, Each area has its own design and is generally used as a carpet. The texture of the kilim may have other uses than the carpet among the nomads with modifications: including salt shakers, horseshoes, tent strips.
Kilims are usually woven with broken (geometric) patterns. These motifs mostly include rhombuses, triangles, quadrangles, flowers, plants, cashmere, hexagons, domestic animals and predators, and many other motifs.
It can be said that in Central Asia, Eastern Europe and North Africa, wherever goats, sheep and camels were bred and its people specialized in carpet weaving, kilims were also woven. Turkmen, Caucasian, Turkish, Arab and… hand-woven people have produced and used kilims. In Persian literature, kilim with zillow or jajim and… is generally used in the same sense. Specifically, a kilim is a rug that is woven from weaving fabric onto threads that are woven on a raised hanger. Auxiliary devices such as tubes and are not used in kilim weaving; This is the difference between kilim and zillow or jajim and other types mentioned in the literature. The oldest woven kilim in Egypt is obtained. Of course, in countries such as India, China, Afghanistan, Pakistan and other Middle Eastern countries, kilim weaving is done. To strengthen and strengthen the kilim weavers, they use a type of knot known as "two knots" from the place where the roots enter the kilim.
Washing a kilim is like washing a carpet. Since most kilims are made of wool, it is better not to wash the kilims with washing powder and use carpet shampoo instead. And after washing the kilim with shampoo, use emollient. Then hang the kilim on a rope or railing and let it dry in the shade and in the wind. If there is a stain on your kilim, you should stain it before washing the kilim. Most kilims need color stabilization before washing. Because the paint may be mixed with detergent during washing, and for this reason, we must refer to the authorized carpet washers to wash the kilim so that the kilim is not damaged.
