These days, the fever of consuming organic foods, or foods that are grown naturally and without any fertilizers or pesticides, has risen among the people, supermarkets and fruit shops. Suppose you are in a fruit shop, with organic apples on one side and regular apples on the other, both of them look firm enough, shiny and red. We even know that both of them have enough vitamins and fiber and on the other hand, they are free of fat, sodium and cholesterol.

The question is, what is the difference between these two kinds of fruits and what makes organic food more expensive than regular food? The word organic refers to the manner or practice of farmers in growing, producing and even processing products such as fruits, vegetables, summer vegetables and legumes. At the same time, dairy products and even meat, which are in the category of livestock products, are not excluded from this category.

The goal of farmers and ranchers working in this field is specifically to protect the soil and water as the two main elements of crop production and at the same time reduce pollution. In fact, farmers and ranchers who grow their crops organically do not use conventional and conventional methods for fertilization, pest control and even common methods of controlling various livestock diseases.

Instead of using chemical herbicides, an organic farmer uses relatively harsh but more environmentally friendly methods, such as periodic cultivation, spreading mulch (bituminous organic matter from decomposing straw and dead leaves), or animal manures to control pests.

Sometimes professional gardeners use black plastic sheets, known as mulch, but natural mulch must be made of organic matter to reduce grass growth and increase worm growth while preventing water from evaporating from the soil surface as well.

Ordinary farmers use chemical fertilizers to increase plant growth, but organic farmers use natural fertilizers such as animal manure and compost (a mixture of plant fertilizer and soil) not only for plant growth but also for soil nutrition.

Ordinary farmers spray synthetic and artificial insecticides on their crops to reduce pests and diseases, but organic farmers get their pesticides from natural sources. For this purpose, they mostly use the benefits of insects and birds in controlling the reproduction of other insects or even as traps.

Ordinary farmers, on the other hand, rely more on chemical and synthetic herbicides to control weeds, but the organic farmer strategy clearly emphasizes the use of natural elements such as native rivals, weeding by hand, and mulching.

Ordinary ranchers, on the other hand, often give their livestock antibiotics, drugs and even hormonal compounds to grow and fight a variety of diseases, but organic ranchers feed their livestock with organic food and, most importantly, they provide the possibility of using open spaces for them. These ranchers believe that the use of preventive methods, periodic grazing, balanced diet and keeping the habitat clean constantly play an important role in controlling their diseases.

Planting organic crops also requires special facilities, but the question is whether ordinary people can grow some of them in confined spaces, such as small gardens or even pots? The answer to this question is positive for many experts, for example, some vegetables and summer vegetables can be easily grown in a suitable but limited space.

Most vegetables and summer crops need sunlight and good soil drainage to grow well, but their soil must also be able to retain moisture. Too much shade will cause many problems for growing vegetables. In addition, the desired location should not be exposed to wind. Research has shown that even moderate winds can reduce yields by about 30 percent.

It is interesting to know that even a few pieces of wood that are fastened around the pot in the form of beams can prevent the destructive effect of wind on agricultural products. One thing to keep in mind about confined spaces, such as pots, is the use of periodic cultivation techniques. Appetizing one type of product continuously in a confined space is not recommended at all, because it will definitely reduce the product, increase pathogens and weeds.
